Open relationships weather the storm

I've seen a lot of friends and family go through marriages, engagements, hand-fastings and other long term commitments only to end up unhappy, unsatisfied, and bitter as time goes on. On the other side I have known many people in open relationships who are still together and extremely happy for years after the "normal" couples are separated and no longer interacting with each other.
I believe that the open couples last because the very nature of the real open relationship is one of honesty, trust, and mutual communication. For an open relationship to work properly for all involved there has to be good communication of wants/needs/desires, clear boundaries (or at least well laid out guidelines) and above all trust.
Must be why I've had more luck joining couples as the extra hand than the singles scene. Food for thought I guess

What happened to the groups

I've noticed that all the local groups have somewhat dried up as far as interaction.
Before, it was still mostly a woman & couples thing, but even that has dried up lately.
