Desert Rat 2009

Went in search of desert wildflowers last week. Started out at Mojave national preserve (Kelso dunes) for two nights, two nights in Death Valley, a night in Eureka dunes, then finished up in Saline Valley. Not much in bloom yet this year, but still beautiful. I love the wide open spaces and driving for hours without seeing anyone else. DesertUSA rated most areas at 5-6 out of 10, but I'd give 'em around 3-4. Notes for next trip will be to spend more time at Saline Valley (hot springs and wild burros!) even though it's 30 miles of washboard roads. Great place and very relaxing!
