How I lost 70 lbs at the age of 64

I have been told by several people that it is almost impossible to lose weight when we get older. I have tried dieting......It doesn't work. I am type 2 diabetic and my Dr. told to lose weight. I went on a diet I gained weight. I was then told by a nutritionist and my Psychologist that the best way to lose weight was to change what I ate. It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle change. I eat protein, limited and less than 60gm of carbs. meal. I quit drinking pop and all sugary drinks. I threw everything that was non fat or low fat. I only drink whole milk or eat whole milk yogurt. I grew up drinking whole milk fresh from the dairy and really missed the taste. I also got rid of margarine and eat real butter.
Whenever you eat protein you have to eat fat. For breakfast I usually have a protein drink made with whole milk and a small piece of fruit. For lunch and dinner get creative. I don't count calories. I had a really great salad one time while I was in the hospital. Not all hospital food is nasty tasting. They used a spring greens mix, then added turkey breast, I use chicken breast, scattered some dried cranberries over that, then added a small sliced pear, some crumbled bleu cheese and some candied filberts and topped it off with huckleberry dressing. I use a raspberry vinaigrette dressing. I make a huge salad mostly greens, I use about 1/4 to 1/3 lb of chicken breast. I have found some bread that is only 30 gm of carbs slice. There are some really good tasting sparkling water with different flavors that are calorie free. I don't like plain water. I also drink Perrier. I also have an occasional cup of coffee, black. DO NOT use any artificial sweeteners. I eat large amounts of vegetables, but no starchy ones like potatoes and corn. No beans, except green beans, beans are too in carbs. When I eat meat I eat around 1/4 lb. And it doesn't have to be lean meat. I hate eating fat so I drink a glass of milk, Your body has to have fat to process the protein. I haven't lost the weight quickly it has taken about 1 1/2 years, but that's the right way to do it. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
