Gold or Not to Gold

Having so much trouble with messaging friends i am wondering whether it is worthwhile to get a Gold Membership. I am sure not going to pay for this kind of quality. Thoughts ?

 It's no better whether you are a paying member or not imo. the only advantage would be in being able to exhange emails.
