"The Condemned Man"

"The Condemned Man" This is how it always started for him. Small, just a shiver at the base of his spine, that slowly worked it's way up his back. It would cause him to fidget. An almost involuntary action on his part, and it always made him feel a bit embarrassed. Why couldn't he control his body even after all these years? Yet she had always been the one that could put him off his game. It had started the first time they met, when she had left him unable to put his words into a coherent sentence and she walked away laughing at his flustered look. Now it was years later, and he still felt like the deer in the headlights when she flashed her smile his way. Gods, how he loved that smile. Warm and welcoming, with just a hint of the mischievous devil that she had hidden beneath the angelic veneer. The smile of a cat that knew she had the time in the world to play with her food.... So why was he here again? He had gone down this path before, and knew that it lead nowhere. Well, it lead to many places, none of them good for him though. It was always a fun trip. Exciting, like a roller coaster. The problem was that the ride usually ended with him broken, bleeding, and used up on the ground. Still, he thought to himself, even the condemned man has to find some pleasure in his last meal... |
