Winter Driving Skills Test

Results.....

Pass!

Barely, but pass!

Today was day I got my car back....

There nothing like a white knuckle, zero visibility, white- snow storm to make you thankful to be alive!

My Middle skipped today to drive to my car. it was not snowing when we set 8am this mornin.. Five minutes outside of Gaylord was a blizzard.

My stomach still tied in knots....

After 2 hours of driving to my car, 45 minutes of confusion and hassle to leave with it, it took 5 minutes for have a near-death experience and nearly wreck my car.

...

Believe or not, as slush pulled of control, weaving back and forth between cars and nearly hitting semi that had sucked into him when he passed, I could think about was...

I JUST got my fucking car back!! Are you kidding ????

Somehow I managed keep my calm, using my wipers twice clear slush from my window so I could see where I was spinning out of control , and managed finally roll a stop other side of the road.

Thank you God!

I had get going and merge into traffic before I caused an accident and let my know I was ok, I'd been driving right behind him.

Gingerly, I worked myself into traffic and used hands .

" My God Mom!! Are you ok??? I could see was you swerving!!"

He was scared, I knew he would be.

" ok, a good driver. I pulled myself of swerve and fine. quite a ways behind you now, but it's ok."

"I slowed way down, I could see was you swerving by that semi."

"'s ok, ok."

I waited until I was off phone with him until I had my actual break down. It's really a miracle I didn't wreck my car.... That semi driver had have known that he was creating a vacuum as he passed vehicles, pulling them over in slush.

There was an angel my shoulder today.

I spent remainder of my drive home near tears. Between stress of my car, and finding yesterday that ex in law had passed away, kind of giving the term 'emotional wreck' a good name.

Ugh....

I had a much better day today.... But, you know, I kind of miss getting hugs. Nobody hugs anymore, or does empathetic arm touches or pats on the back because of COVID. Sometimes you just need to feel that good energy from others.

It very well could have been a way worse scenario.... I did a lot of praying yesterday, to be honest.

totally commiserate although here in this region i've only had one white knuckle day so far this "winter" and that was more due to less than good tires and a rusted suspension frame but good note my tire guys have a guy that says he can economically repair the frame sorry about your in-law, nice to have your car back i bet
Maybe it's time for a new car....

I’m very glad you were alert and able to handle that scary event. I think everyone who reads your blog wants to give you a hug and say “this too shall pass”.
Loss in any form is never easy to take. But thankfully you have an amazing support system in those offspring of yours. Be glad of that and know you make your former mother in law proud every day by raising such darn good human beings. What better legacy is there than that?
It's definitely been a bad patch for me.... We all have them from time to time, and I'm really, really thankful that it isn't something worse, but it really does suck regardless. I think maybe, sometimes it just feels so consuming because I don't talk about this stuff with anyone. I don't want to worry my kids and I don't like to share my personal stuff at work and I don't like to write about the bad stuff here because then I'm just rehashing and crying.... So, it just sits there, within me.

I'm sorry to hear about your MIL, I'm NOT sorry to say I drove to work today with my windows down.
Argh..... So envious!! The summers here are really beautiful, but I really hate the winter.

    Wow... That's quite the day
Good for you and your driving skills.
Knowing your mother in law passed... was that a wish you're hanging on to - being part of a family? I'm sorry for your loss.
Never mind... It's just a thought.

Good for you and knowing how to swerve. ❗❗🌹😎
Not really a wish I'm hanging on to.... This was the woman who went to every kid event, every birthday party, was present for the birth of two of my children.... And she was very active in the community. It's just really a sad loss.

Thank you.... And, yes, I believe so too. It could have been a way worse outcome.

Similar happened here today. I watched a speeder (I was maybe 5 mph fast and he flew past me) in a pickup forget that bridges ice up quickly. He performed a lovely, but completely out of control pirouette, a few hundred yards ahead of me. He didn't hit anything, but only because there wasn't anyone to hit.

I flipped him off as I passed.
I wasn't speeding, though... My son had said he felt the semi pull his truck toward him too, but he was able to break free. I think my car was just too light and there was just too much slush. Those drivers of the large trucks need to keep that stuff in consideration.

Wow, that's the kind of excitement NOBODY needs! I'm glad you're ok, and I hope things are uneventful for the rest of the winter! My condolences on your former MIL. (hug)
I hope to never experience that again, let me tell you. This whole experience has ranked right up there with the time my mother died, my divorce was finalized, and I was pulled over for having a tail light out and discovered my license was expired on the same day. Magical!

Wow.....you've been through the wringer this past week. Hoping you can catch a break and a deep breath. You need lots of hugs!
Very sorry to hear about your mother in law.
I was telling my daughter about it all on the way home from school.... And she just laughed and said "2021 is not going to be your year, mom."

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
