BSA Blog Service Announcement - Taking A Leak

By now I imagine you’ve read that the site(s) were compromised in October. It has been posted about on these blogs and numerous online media have written about it (CNN Money and Forbes to name a couple). There are also a number of techie sites that have a report on this. The type of data exposed was: passwords, email addresses, user language data, and site membership numbers. It is being called one of the largest infiltrations in online history.

If you go to a place named Leaked Source (one word) com you will find a sampling of what info was available when the site(s) were compromised in October. It is somewhat interesting. Below is one sample of the compromised data that was put into a chart. I’m showing only 12 of the most common passwords the Leaked site posted, there are 75 of them.

FWIW, people be smart and try to use better passwords for your own protection.

If you’re interested I will post up more of what that site found.

While the use of "obvious" passwords isn't surprising the number of people/accounts that have used the same ones was a bit surprising, especially the 900k number. Welcome to my blog.

I was watching a program last night about how easy it is to hack any internet user...corporate or personal. It is really up to each individual to be very careful about passwords and companies should be super vigilant with their users data. Sadly this place isn't super vigilant about anything.
It is really up to each individual to be very careful about passwords and companies should be super vigilant with their users data. I agree, both have to do their parts.

I would imagine the program mentioned that the "H-word" people are constantly trying to outwit the latest security measures. To some it is a challenge. That being the case the inter/web/nets can never really be completely secure.

Well, easy passwords isn't the brightest thing to do, but we are talking about people so . . .

The way I understood the article all passwords were taken. They just posted the 75 most commonly used ones. I too won't give them any more personal data than "necessary".

Good question, but IMO 1 account is too many sometimes.

What they hacked are the passwords the site uses for all of tje fake profiles they post on here.Do you really think someone is going to use 123456?in second though
Thats what your example is telling me.Just how the site uses
    sumple passwords yo fool people!
Considering some of the things I've read here - yes I think some people will use 123456 as their password. Just look at who we elected - equally as bright.

For most in the workplace, there are password rules. And yes, I have been at some places that had some really wonky-ones (cannot use the same character in the same place when changing passwords; cannot use consecutive numbers; cannot use words found in dictionary; etc.).

But no real password rules here. Nope.
Even if there were rules there is zero encryption according to what I read.

I think 54321 was taken by only 10,000 people , so you're good.
