Etiquette

I have a question regarding proper etiquette when buying drinks for a female and receiving drinks as a female...

The reason I ask is because, I'd seen a video on Twitter, where a guy bought a girl a drink, & right after she got the drink, she turned and walked away...

Ladies,

If you're out at a bar or club and a man offers to buy you a drink, and you accept, aren't you obligated to give that man some conversation? If so, how long, Is it ever okay to accept a drink and then snub the guy?

Guys,

Has this ever happened to you? If so, did you do?

As a bartender for over twenty years I had always made it a practice to let the lady or man know that a particular person wanted to buy them and drink before making it to see if they would accept it. I think all bartenders should do this because it's stops those kind of practices that you just described. I mean people are just trying to be nice, but some ladies think that when a man buys them a drink they owe him something in return.

Seduce the mind and see what a wonderful adventure the body will take you on..

I do not ever feel obligated to have a conversation when a man buys me
a drink unless he has had some sort of conversation with me before the drink is offered. " Hello, can I buy you a drink" is not conversation in my book.
If a drink is sent to me from across the bar or from another area, I will acknowledge it with a nod and mind my own business. Thus said, I do not think this will happen in the near future forcing me to reassess my though process- I have no intention of going to any bar in this cold weather

My answer is No, I am not obligated to stayed there if I don'y want to. Especially if I have NOT ask him to buy anything.

Next, when you buy a drink to someone, you do it expecting nothing. cause if they are gonna like you cause you buy drinks, then that is not good for you. cause they don't like you. just the drinks.

I have invited or bough drinks for a female and males before. I was not expecting anything. I did it cause they seemed pleasant, I like them as people, they were fun and I felt as offering them a drink. nothing else.

Last, I get guys offering me drinks all the time. every time I go out, if I'm by myself, as soon as I walk in, there is a guy or two very quick on my tale, trying to get to me even before I get to the bar area. but that is why of the main reasons why I declined most of them, I just say, I appreciated but no thank you. cause I have notice, that when you say yes to a drink, they then want to muscle in, they stick like a piece of gum to you, they don't wanna move, and the sure ruins your night, cause you went out by yourself for a reason. to be on your own, to enjoy the scene with out someone blocking you from enjoying conversations with whoever you want. especially when you are not there with them.

If She or He is interested in you. She or He will notice you. with out you doing the buying or putting yourself upside down for them. it has to come natural, otherwise is all fake. why would you want that.

Actually here is a tip for you guys, When you offer a drink, first make small conversation, don't just go straight to her and your first comment is "would you like a drink". cause most likely she will say no. once you offer and she accepts, let her pick or tell you what she likes, don't make a decision on her drink, let her pick. have the same, tell them bartender make it 2. then look at her, and say, hey your pick of drink sounded great. I gotta have one too. let the bartender handle that drink to her, don't take it from the bartender to handle it to her. she can do that, let her do it. then say enjoy the drink, you look great. and make an excuse to walk away from her, don't stick there, that will pick her interest cause she will view you as different from the rest of the guys. trust me, she will find you from there if she is interested to continue talking to you. she is not blind, she will see you and find you.

I think the whole, you should buy someone a drink without expectations, is a little naive... Nobody is buying a drink for someone & not expecting at the very least, some conversation...

Again, if you're not interested, DO NOT accept the drink. I do agree,
that if a guy buys you a drink & you accept, it does not mean he owns you for the whole night. The drink is a request for a little of your time, to plead my case. All I is need is 5 minutes. If you're not interested after that... have a nice night & enjoy your evening...

Ladies, here's a tip... If a guy offers to buy you a drink, he is doing so with the expectation of "some" conversation... if you are not interested, politely decline & keep it moving...

There are different tactics for different situations. I'm going to approach someone differently in a club than I would at a gym or at a park.

I think you ladies are being naive or disingenuous, believing that a man is offering to buy you a drink without expectation of some conversation. He's not buying you a drink because he likes the way you sip alcohol...

Agreed, walking up to her and just saying hi, is also workable...

Do you normally accept drinks, from men you're not interested in? So if a man that you have no interest in, offers to buy you a drink, do you say yes, or do you decline?

For the last time, if you're not interested, don't accept the drink. Really quite simple...
