Goldilocks and the three beds

I am shopping for a new bed. I tend to buy a new bed every 7-8 years. I have read that the life of a good mattress is around 10 years, but they recommend replacing every 7-10 years.. I am sure the life of a mattress depends on the quality you originally bought and the use it has been put through.

There are many types of beds out there - the memory foam, innerspring, hybrids, foam and different variations within each type - ie the type of spring/coil.

I have tried out a few beds and have found one that I like in the memory foam category. It has a longer warranty and technology for cooling and I found it the most comfortable.

As I tried out the foam and memory foam beds I wondered about how these beds perform during Sex? I have the feeling that it may hinder some activities. I have read some reviews but you can't really trust what you read online...

Have you had sex in a foam or memory foam bed and how was it? Any Issues?

My only issue with memory foam is that I found it gets super hot - I have had no issues with the sexy sexy sex but then again I don't do a ton of freaky stuff

I've heard that foam beds can get hot for some people too. But that could partly the individual's chemistry.

Also, don't trust what you read online - unless I say it

I too had the heat problem. It's not just a little warmer, it is marinating-in-your-own-juices overnight hot. But that was before they started adding the cooling technology. So take it for what it's worth.

Latex foam is better than memory foam. It lasts longer and is cooler. I had a latex foam pillow and it was the best thing ever. But latex foam isn't as easy to find.

It does take some getting used to. For a while, I had trouble moving on it, my hands and elbows just kept sinking into it. I became Will Smith in Men in Black II, in that scene where he falls on the tubes. You get used to it though. My husband has never complained (but then again, he prefers a soft bed and I prefer the firmest thing known to mankind). After the first few weeks, you naturally adapt and don't even notice it anymore. It's not like sex requires acrobatics. Memory foam isn't an issue any more than any new bed will naturally feel different.

Even with memory foam, there are different levels of softness. So you still have to find the one most comfortable for you. And once you do that, there's not much difference between that and an inner spring mattress, despite what the commercials would have you believe. Thus memory foam is overrated.

Next time we need a mattress we're going with a Sleep Number. Not so much because I'm sold on the Sleep Number system, but rather because if I don't like the hardness/softness I can adjust it afterwards and not have to worry about picking exactly the right one and feel stuck with it for 15 years.

Hope that helps

Never tried a sleep number nor one of those moving beds. I should take a look at them and what kind of warranty they come with the technology...

Thank you

I hedged my bets and bought a traditional innerspring mattress but put a memory foam (yes the cooling technology really does work!!) topper on it. Best of both worlds. Having sex on them just requires a little bit of a change in style.... there's less bounce but it's not like boinking in taffy.

Thank you, happy to know the cooling technology works....

Yes, no difference that I can tell.
It's better than the floor. HAHA!!!

Any Issues?

When it comes to sex, none.

I'd buy a traditional mattress and get a memory foam add on to put on top of it.

I reference this review of best mattress for sex:

Caveat ....a good mattress can't compensate for a bad sex partner... but at least you will sleep good afterward ~~~

I'll volunteer...To test yours out with ya...I haven't had the pleasure yet...Slept in a Hammock for two months once...Water Beds were fun...Pushed one out a second story window once...Recorded it for a class...Wish I still had that recording..."Where there is a will...There is a way..." Workarounds are the staple of life...

I have a hybrid memory foam mattress with what must be cooling technology. The mattress is never hot, rolling over or moving does take some different ways of moving compared to a regular mattress. All the mattresses have different life spans and all mattresses come with a maintenance guide. This mattress cost more than a car in the 1970s and whom would have thought of making mattress payments! After getting this bed, which sleeps fine, I would have preferred spending less and replacing more often. This mattress better last at least 10 years to be worth the money I spent. No bounce back for hump fun.
The store where I bought the mattress had a sleep test bed...Salesman, "the test bed says you need one of these two mattresses!" yepper. sheesh

In my experience it's not the bed that needs to be replaced but the lover!

I had a memory foam top on my spring/coil bed. I hated it. I love sex on the corner of a spring/coil bed with a low bed stand.

when we got a new bed a few years back(upgrading from a '70s water bed) we did a lot a checking things out. we went with a regular mattress with the plush top, not ultra plush though. it was like the memory foam, very restrictive when it comes to moving or rolling over or anything.
so keep that in mind when purchasing. we go a serta but not the expensive ones, it was like five hundred bucks with the box springs.

Hi NP,
I've recently gone back to a double bed after sleeping in a single. I have a foam mattress topper which is great for my back but it does tend to slide around a lot!
