my loss your loss
You police the lines I might think to cross
an inch I gain and then a brushing hand my loss
you are smiles and conversation sweet
but passion and physical intimacy do not meet
seems I do not know your town or your name
this is serious life you say not some fun game
some time you state we must have to learn
of each other and so each inch in knowing earn
have heard about your family and schooling
as I learn more my ardour gradually cooling
you would squeeze every inch of mystery from your form
become a generic stereotype to which life conform
yes your lips are full and eyes bright
yet I long for some mystery of the night
as you lay your life before me in triplicate
I wonder if I should to you capitulate
the lines are less policed but I do not seek to cross
balance between desire and knowledge changes your loss.
