Shy or Not Shy - That is the Question

For those of you who always comment about my shyness or ask me why I’m shy or am I really shy; here it is. I am shy. I may not always act shy depending on my comfort level but I am naturally shy and being around people is not always comfortable for me. Yes, sometimes depending who I am with or my surroundings and how I’m feeling at the time I may not seem shy at all but I am still naturally shy especially in new situations. I have worked hard to overcome my shyness and at times I can be very outgoing but it’s not my natural state and in many ways it can be very draining for me. Anyway, I ran across this definition the other day and wanted to share it.

Below is the definition of shyness from the American Psychological Association.

Shyness is the tendency to feel awkward, worried or tense during social encounters, especially with unfamiliar people. Severely shy people may have physical symptoms like blushing, sweating, a pounding heart or upset stomach; negative feelings about themselves; worries about how others view them; and a tendency to withdraw from social interactions. Most people feel shy at least occasionally. Some people’s shyness is so intense, however, that it can keep them from interacting with others even when they want or need to— leading to problems in relationships and at work

Ok so there it is. Now no more questions ok. lol

So can anyone relate to this or not? Feel free to share thoughts, ideas, opinions. thanks.

Being an introvert myself, I can totally relate. Am often misunderstood until you get to know me. Various leadership positions have forced me to be my outgoing in the workplace, but still working on that in social situations.

FYI, they are a group from the 80s. Their big hit had to do with shyness...

I'd ask more questions, but I'm too shy.

Not as shy as Kajagoogoo, but close.
