My dad fought in Italy with the Canadian Army during WW2 and I never heard him say an unkind word about "the enemy". To him, they were men, just like him, but on the other side. He died before I was old enough to ask more in depth, serious questions.
To him, and my mum, who also served, and all those others who served and continue to serve, thank you for your service.

Drop in and visit my blog sometime, but you'll probably regret it

The thought that goes through my mind when I hear of someone killing someone, that dead person was some Mother's child. Even killers on death row are some Mother's child, that makes me sad for them. Happy Veterans Day to your Grand Father.

It's a tough thing, this business of war. Wouldn't it be great if wars were a thing of the past.

That is an incredible story. Humanity can win out sometimes even in devastating circumstances. Your Grand Father proved that to the highest point.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful story.
