 I'm straight, so my own answer is "I didn't".

But I'm not sure I agree with the premise of the question; people's sexual nature is fixed very early, possibly before birth, and no later than early childhood. So whether the question is "When did you become straight?", "When did you become gay?", or "When did you become bi?", the answer is always, "Long before I even knew what the words meant."

For example, I know a woman who realized she was bi from about age five -- but didn't know there was a word for it until much later, didn't become sexually active with boys until her teens, and didn't have sex with women until her twenties.

A more appropriate wording for the question would be, "When did you realize that you were bi or bi-curious?" (or straight or gay), or, "When did you first become sexually active with the opposite sex, and with the same sex?"
