local groups and just plain rude idiots

There are a couple of local groups that I joined when I first signed on to this joint. At first glance I thought, great, there are plenty of like-minded people here. I made the obligatory introductions as a newbie and started to read some of the posts. I suppose that I should be inured to the whole power of the anonymity of the toobs. But still, there are some whackjobs that really need to get a life. The back and forth calling names, challenges of manhood, I mean, high school was years ago. Any semblance of having fun, meeting folks, the very purpose of being here has been totally shot by these whacks. Needless to say I dont bother visiting those local groups, I probably should at least stop by and pay my final respects and delete my membership in the group. On the other hand, does that mean that the whackjobs win? Do they have the run of the place, or should they? The problem lies with the anonymity of the toobs (as Ted Stevens calls the internet!) and some people just cant handle it.
