Sticky Posts

Hello bloggers! I was wondering what you guys think about sticky posts? More specifically, basement posts from days long gone. I'm not necessarily including those posts that are "sign ins" or "leave me a message that nobody else will see", not those, but rather those that the author for whatever reason has chosen to bring back to their front page.

I have been featuring posts from the past recently. I know they are being viewed by hundreds of new readers since my curiosity in this matter caused me to count.

What is interesting to me is that they inspire no new comments. It's like taboo or something to jump into a cobwebby conversation between ghosts often long departed.

So, I'm thinking well, what does keithcancook usually do when he sees these thumbtacked titles over on y'alls blogs? Generally, I will give them a quick scan. It has to grab me somehow if I'm gonna stop there before moving on to the first post without a tack.

However, when I do go into these sticky posts, I often will leave my two cents worth. No matter how old the post.

Then again, I am a rather bent blogger who enjoys forays into the basements of BlogLand.

So, who reads sticky posts? Do you feel like it is taboo say something in them?

As always,

blog on!

Those are NOT my legs in that pic. I moved through that area with the nimbleness of a mountain goat and didn't get a glob on me!

Yes, but do you yourself read and comment on sticky posts? Or do you move directly to the most recently written post?

Is this just another trick by keithcancook
to get his text on television?

No. I photographed a pair.

I also am pleased to find that a post of mine can still generate an active response.

In any event, don't be surprised when you go down into your blog basement and find me staring back at you!

I do feel like I'm intruding, but I'm sure over time I'll warm up to the idea of leaving myself behind, lol!

Keith, you've been blogging here longer than I have but I can remember when a few years back it wasn't all that unusual to get a comment on a older blog post. In the past year, I have had two comments on posts older than one month.

When I first started watching blogs here at this site, I would often go back and read some of the previous posts to get a feel for the blogger; now I usually start reading a new blog and never go back to read previous posts unless the blogger is referring to something that makes little sense without reading older posts.

As for those sticky posts, I dislike them. I hate it when you have to skim through a half a page of sticky posts to find the latest post. I seldom, if ever, read them.

I will ready sticky posts, but it all depends on what the post is about. If it's relevant to a current topic in the news or on peoples minds, then ok, go for it.

Although some people really get carried away with sticky posts and they can become a pain.

As for commenting on them... I don't think anyone would post something and allow for comments if they didn't want them, so yes I would comment and no I don't feel it's taboo to do so. Again, this concludes that the post is relevant too an opinion I have and I have not posted an opinion before...unless of course my opinion has changed.

I've gone on deep blog diving forays since the Summer of 2005. By then basements were beginning to get deep. Now, the basements of BlogLand are vast. Vast. It can get scary for the unwary!

There's tons of great stuff down there, just a few clicks away.

As for the sticky thingies, I like em! When they first appeared I thought "At last, I can resurrect my old posts, and force feed em from my front page once more!" Some of em needed a bit of dusting though. It gets stuffy for em down there all alone.

Thanks for stopping and joining the conversation, my friend!

Yes, I have done that as well. Checking out that first blog page all the way down at the bottom basement level. It's often interesting to note how some bloggers develop over time.

It's nice to see you. That is you, isn't it? Difficult to tell through all the atmospheric crap you guys have floating around over there. I hope it doesn't mess with your travel plans, gf.

That is difficult to do unless they are new. There are some prolific posters here in BlogLand. With gigantic basements.

They can be scanned fairly well from the Titles view, but you mostly miss the pics that way. Oft times I will just randomly click on a page in the middle of a large basement and work my way out from there.

James, my friend, that is only one of the reasons I like you. You keep all your options open!

I agree that it's possible to overdo it with the sticky stuff. I've been goofing around with em here in The Venting Blog, and got a bit overwhelmed trying to get them in a desired order. Oy.

I don't care for the ones that have a dozen sticky posts in front of their new ones. I read one blog where I almost stopped reading because there were so many stickies! I am known to go into peoples dungeons and find their secrets. I don't know if anyone goes to mine, but if they want to, they are welcome.

I do that some also, especially if the piece I posted long ago was, in my opinion, something worth reading now (I have a lot more readers than a year ago.)

With the thingy on the side that indicates when someone posts a comment, I can read what they say and comment back at 'em.

And, there are some postings that should be read and reread and reread again and again and again...

I hear you, amoldenough. Sometimes it's like you can't see the tree due to the forest!

I haven't been in your basement yet, but I bet I will at some point. I usually do with those I blog with. Be sure to tidy up, and maybe leave me a sammich somewhere about halfway down...

That's a rather reasonable position, Pygar. LOL, I simply figure that anything I have written is worth reading at least once. Why not bring it out for a new batch of bloggers?

So, stay tuned to The Venting Blog for more vintage keithcancook coming to my front page soon!

Yeah, that seems to be the consensus around here. If you have a bunch of em it can be problematic trying to get em in the desired order.

A few weeks ago nine out of ten of my front page posts were sticky's. I was using stickys to try and keep my newer posts on top of the ones belched up from my blog basement. It was a nightmare of navigation. I am keeping them to a minimum for now.

Thanks to you, and to all the others who contributed to this post!

I was always really disappointed in one aspect of the sticky posts. I saw that there was the option to stick the post to be the first or second or third etc thread on one's blog. I really wanted to have a thread stuck in second place, but have the top thread rotating like usual. Sadly, that doesn't seem possible.

Thanks to all who voted for me!
