First and Rearmost .Starting almost at the beginning

I normally don't like talking about my childhood as I really never had one, but such is life. Firstly my parents were quite a pair. My father was a cabinet maker and a very good one at that by all accounts,he stood 5'5" tall and weighed in at 240lb without an ounce of fat on him, he also had a firecracker temper which got him into a lot of trouble from time to time. I've always been amazed that he never killed anyone during one of his rages, just lucky I guess. I found out much to late in life that he was truly a good man, albeit a very quick tempered one.

And then there was my dear sweet Mother she worked in the restaurant trade for as long as I can remember. She was attractive, smart, talented, and as manipulative as a side show psychic, she was the kind that played both hands against the middle, sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't.Unfortunately I believed her shpeel for many years. Not meaning to offend any reader but she would have done very well for herself in NoStrings, and as a consequence my parents were always at each others throats literally and figuratively. It was a very violent time for a of five and I grew up very quickly and spent a lot of my time at my Grandparents farm which luckily was not far from where we lived in town. Now by the age of seven I had pretty much disowned my fathers side of the family and moved in with my grandparents on my mothers side full time, however I still bounced back and forth when my folks weren't fighting always hoping that it would be better but it never was. Funny thing is they were apart so much I didn't even know that they were divorced until 5 years after.(gee we were really close),and when they died they both died alone,I didn't even go to their funerals. As already stated by age 7 I was pretty much living with my Grans and this is where the story really begins as well as the hardest work I have ever done.

Now I was born during the early fifty's in a town 20 miles north of the US border and this place was something special. It was like right out of a Western movie set except there were some cars along with horses. It had three blacksmiths shops and a livery stable, my Granddad was a farmer but also was one of the blacksmiths and also owned the livery stable. The town had the last all men's beer parlor in Canada go figure. Fights at the hotel every friday and Saturday night, free entertainment that along with parking on main street, and watching people walk by, that was pretty much it for things to do in this dump.
We had a town sheriff who was also the town drunk so instead of putting him and his deputy on welfare the town council gave them a uniform a badge and a gun. What a concept, hell the only thing the cops ever did was get loaded and go shoot rats at the local dump, that and get beat up when they tried to break up a fight at the bar.
So if your thinkin' I grew up in Mayberry, nah Andy Griffth was not our sheriff, the deputy was a lot like Barney Fife just a whole lot fatter and drunk. We used to have a lot of fun with the cops, the things we did to them shouldn't have happened to a much less a pig. But gees we didn't have anything else to do.

Can't wait to read more,

I guess I forgot to mention that the last four town cops we had all had their drivers taken away and all drove the prowl cars under what we in Canada call a working permit. That of course meant they couldn't leave the town limits while on duty and couldn't drive while off duty.Go figure. One of the lase town cops we had got fired when someone found him crawling around on the school yard drunk as hell with a shotgun looking for his deputy so that he could kill him. Then the town council figured it was time for him to go.
Thanks for dropping by Jeff.
