Work
Work My father retired (the first time) when he was 49. I am only 5+ years away from 49, and unless something miraculous happens, I won't be close to retirement then. I love the work I do, and it affords me a pretty decent lifestyle, but I work a lot! Yesterday, while My Muse and I were chatting, she told me that it seems like all I do is go to meetings, and she is correct. The best thing about the work I do, is that I essentially set my own schedule. The worst thing about it is that I am often in meetings. My own success rides on my shoulders. If I don't generate business, then I don't generate income. Sometimes I miss the "luxury" of my corporate job. I showed up for work, and as long as I was performing well (which I did), I knew exactly how much money I was making and exactly when it hit my account. But, I have a much better quality of life in my current situation. And life is a little more exciting now that I'm not on cruise control. One of my "jobs" (I have two) is working in building my own business. It is very part time right now, but I know it will come to a point where it will be full-time. I'm not really sure why I'm posting this, except to say that the last couple weeks, I have been swamped. I suppose things could be much worse for me, but I really need some time off right now, and it looks like it will be a while before I get any. I want to go to someplace really quiet, where I can read and sleep for a week. I'm not complaining. I really do enjoy my work! |

Sounds to me like you're pretty much "torn" my friend...."working on building my own business", etc.... More importantly, you sound mentally exhausted.....and that's not good....for your goal, your health, your spirit... I say take a long weekend (or even a short one) pretty soon and just "BE"....read, relax, catch some rays. Rejuvenate, Regroup, and don't feel guilty about doing something relaxing, good and "other than work" for yourself.....Hey YOU DESERVE IT....RIGHT??

PS. What's this "wedding" I'm hearing about? Did I miss something?

Wow! I had no idea that mexi could be so demanding...you better shut that independent spirit down fairly early or your life will be hell! I agree with Abbeman...maybe just a weekend away. I will tell you, my long weekend did me wonders and I didn't even get to go anywhere fun! I think you need a little break...vegas anyone?

I think I will be in your shoes before too long - there's a big project at work that will really heat up over the next year or so. It will be interesting but exhausting. Luckily the place I work is pretty humane so I think I will still be able to take a vacation along the way to regroup...

MM, if you were to take a break, you'd just sit around on the couch all day watching Oprah and eating cheez doodles. Work it out-feel the burn!!! [Add exclamatory cliches here]
